The first Boeing B-17s Bomber planes saw combat in 1941 when the RAF took delivery of several B-17s for high-altitude missions. The Flying Fortress could carry nine machine guns and a 4,000-pound bomb load. The Japanese nicknamed the B17s "the four engine fighters."
