Napier Double Scorpion is a twin-chambered auxiliary rocket engine, that can produce a 6000lb thrust with both chambers firing. On 28/0857 the Double Scorpion mounted in the bomb bay of the Canberra B2 Bomber boosted the aircraft to a new world Altitude Record of 70,310ft
The Canberra B2 Bomber climbed to 44,000ft (21.430m) on its two Rolls Royce Avon Turbojets, at this point the Napier N.Sc. D1-2 Double Scorpion Rocket Engine was started and boost the Canberra to a new Altitude World Record for a manned aircraft
