The Derwent Mark V Aero Engine was the first Gas Turbine engine to be produced in quantity by Rolls Royce. These engines were fitted to the Meteor F MK 4 single seat twin engine airplane fighter enabling it to set world speed records of 606mph in 1945 and again in 1946 at 616mph.
