In the opening phase of WWII Germany enjoyed a remarkable success by exploiting new methods of ruthless swift moving operation known as Blitzkrieg. The Luftwaffe played a decisive part by attacking key points behind the enemy's front. The German conquest of France and the Low Countries. May and June 1940 was the greatest triumph of the German Blitzkrieg, achieved with fairly accurate parity in ground forces and tanks, but with the a decisive advantage in the air with Luftwaffe Junkers 87 Stuka aircraft that bowls down on it's target. Great Britain was saved by the bulk of her troops, but she abandoned her weapons and tanks, France accepted defeat on 22nd June 1940. |
